NutraSmarts was built from the inside of the supplement industry — by people who formulate products, read clinical trial data for a living, and understand what information actually matters when you're evaluating an ingredient.
NutraSmarts is a supplement ingredient research database and FDA-compliant labeling tool. The ingredient database is designed to help consumers, formulators, and health practitioners quickly evaluate supplement ingredients — cutting through marketing claims to find what the actual clinical data says.
Every ingredient profile covers benefits, mechanisms of action, clinical trial data with PubMed links, dosage guidance, potential side effects, and known drug interactions. We follow the same rigor we'd apply to our own formulations.
Each ingredient is assigned an evidence level from 1–5 based on the quality, volume, and consistency of available human clinical research:
| Level | Label | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Preliminary | Animal or in vitro data only, or a single small human pilot study. Promising but not yet human-validated. |
| 2 | Limited | One or two small human trials, or observational data. Directional evidence but insufficient for strong claims. |
| 3 | Moderate | Multiple human RCTs, though with some limitations (small samples, short duration, inconsistent results). Reasonable basis for use. |
| 4 | Strong | Multiple well-designed RCTs with consistent results. Meta-analyses available. Mechanistic understanding established. |
| 5 | Very Strong | Extensive RCT data, Cochrane reviews, or regulatory approval in one or more countries. The highest tier of supplement evidence. |
We prioritize RCTs in human subjects. Animal and in vitro data is noted but does not drive evidence level ratings.
Every clinical trial we reference links directly to its PubMed abstract. You can always verify the source.
We cite studied doses from clinical trials, not manufacturer-recommended doses. These are often different, and the distinction matters.
Every profile includes documented side effects and drug interactions. We believe you need both sides of the equation to make informed decisions.
Alongside the ingredient database, NutraSmarts offers a browser-based Supplement Facts label creator for formulators and brands. The tool generates FDA-compliant Supplement Facts panels per 21 CFR 101.36 — supporting both Supplement Facts and Nutrition Facts formats, drag-to-reorder actives, full unit support (mg, mcg, IU, CFU, and more), and PDF export.
It's designed for supplement startups, private label brands, contract manufacturers, and regulatory consultants who need accurate labels without expensive software.
