Joint comfort
In a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, an AKBA-enriched Boswellia serrata extract (5-LOXIN, the parent extract that AquaLOX is the water-soluble form of) improved joint pain and physical-function scores versus placebo in adults with knee osteoarthritis (Sengupta 2008). That trial enrolled people with a diagnosed joint condition and is reported here as research background, not as a claim to treat, prevent, or cure any disease. AquaLOX itself has not been evaluated in its own published human trial.
Balanced inflammation
AKBA supports a balanced inflammatory response, the basis for boswellia's joint benefits.
Cartilage-enzyme marker (MMP-3)
In the 5-LOXIN knee trial, the extract was associated with lower levels of matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3), an enzyme involved in cartilage breakdown. That is a laboratory marker measured in the parent extract's study — it is not evidence that cartilage structure was preserved, and no structural or imaging endpoint was reported. AquaLOX itself has not been tested for this.
Mechanism of action
5-lipoxygenase inhibition
AKBA inhibits the 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) enzyme, reducing pro-inflammatory leukotrienes that drive joint inflammation.
Cartilage-enzyme support
Boswellic acids are studied for reducing the activity of enzymes (such as MMPs) that break down cartilage.

Important qualifier: this trial studied 5-LOXIN, the parent AKBA-enriched extract — not AquaLOX, which is a later water-soluble form of it from the same company. The two share the AKBA actives, but AquaLOX has not been evaluated in its own published human trial, and changing solubility can change absorption.
