Benefits
Wrinkle reduction 8-week RCT (Proksch 2014 PIVOTAL PMID 24401291)
Proksch 2014 (PMID 24401291, Skin Pharmacol Physiol 27(3):113-119) randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial. 114 female participants aged 45-65 at Department of Dermatology, University Hospital of Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Kiel (Germany). VERISOL® 2.5 g/day vs placebo for 8 weeks. RESULTS: ~20% REDUCTION in periorbital wrinkle volume after 4 AND 8 weeks. 65% INCREASE in procollagen type I. 18% INCREASE in elastin levels. Foundational pivotal RCT supporting wrinkle and dermal matrix claims.
Skin elasticity 8-week dose-finding RCT (Proksch 2013)
Proksch 2013 (Skin Pharmacol Physiol original dose-finding) — randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial in 69 women aged 35-55. Three arms: 2.5 g VERISOL®, 5.0 g VERISOL®, or placebo daily for 8 weeks. RESULTS: SKIN ELASTICITY (primary endpoint) IMPROVED in BOTH collagen hydrolysate groups vs placebo at 4 AND 8 weeks. NO statistically significant difference between 2.5 g and 5.0 g doses — establishing 2.5 g as effective standard dose. Supports long-term skin elasticity claims with 4-week post-treatment follow-up showing sustained effects in elderly subgroup.
Skin hydration recent 8-week RCT (Cosmetics 2025)
Cosmetics 2025 (Proksch E, Zdzieblik D, Oesser S 2025, Cosmetics 12(2):79, doi:10.3390/cosmetics12020079) — recent randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial in 66 women aged 35-55. VERISOL B 2.5 g/day vs maltodextrin placebo for 8 weeks. RESULTS: Eye wrinkle volume REDUCTION (Primos Compact optical 3D), SKIN ELASTICITY improvement (Cutometer MPA 580), SKIN HYDRATION improvement (Corneometer CM 825). Confirms pivotal 2014 results with modern measurement methods. Stimulatory effect on dermal type I collagen, elastin, proteoglycan biosynthesis.
Dermal matrix synthesis stimulation (mechanistic)
VERISOL® peptides enter bloodstream as di- and tripeptides → transported to dermis → stimulate fibroblasts → SYNTHESIS of TYPE I COLLAGEN + ELASTIN + PROTEOGLYCANS. Inhibit matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-mediated collagen degradation. Activate TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway. Mechanism distinguishes from generic collagen supplements — specific peptide profile optimized for dermal matrix targeting.
Cellulite reduction (6-month RCT)
Schunck 2015 (J Med Food) — 6-month RCT in normal-weight and overweight women showed VERISOL® 2.5 g/day reduced cellulite degree, decreased waviness of skin on thighs. Mechanism: extracellular matrix improvement reduces underlying tissue irregularities visible as cellulite. Important application beyond pure facial wrinkle/elasticity claims.
Nail growth and brittleness (Hexsel 2017)
Hexsel 2017 (J Cosmet Dermatol) — RCT showed VERISOL® 2.5 g/day for 24 weeks IMPROVED brittle nails (peeling, ridges, breakage). Increased nail growth rate. Mechanism: peptides support keratin matrix similar to hair/nail keratinocytes. Useful evidence for women with nail concerns.
Hair thickness (manufacturer trials)
Gelita-sponsored trials report hair thickness improvements with VERISOL® supplementation. Mechanism: dermal papilla support via collagen matrix improvement. Limited published peer-reviewed evidence but consistent with broader extracellular matrix mechanism.
Mechanism of action
Di/tripeptide absorption with intact bioactivity
VERISOL® peptides are absorbed AS DI/TRIPEPTIDES (not just amino acids) — retain bioactivity and reach bloodstream. Specific molecular weight profile optimized for absorption + dermal targeting. Distinguishes from generic collagen supplements where most material is broken to amino acids.
Fibroblast stimulation in dermis
Absorbed peptides reach dermis where they stimulate fibroblasts to SYNTHESIZE: type I collagen, elastin, proteoglycans. Mechanism for measurable dermal matrix improvements vs degeneration with aging.
MMP inhibition (matrix metalloproteinase)
Inhibits MMPs that degrade collagen — protects existing matrix from breakdown. Combined with stimulating new matrix synthesis, provides dual protective + restorative mechanism.
TGF-β1/Smad pathway activation
Activates transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) and Smad signaling — mechanism for dermal matrix synthesis. Key fibrotic/regenerative pathway.
Hyaluronic acid synthesis regulation
Peptides regulate hyaluronic acid synthesis in dermis — contributes to skin hydration improvements observed in 2025 trial.
Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects
Specific peptides show anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity beyond pure structural effects. Mechanism complementary to dermal matrix support.
Patented peptide profile (Gelita Bioactive Collagen Peptides®)
Gelita's PATENTED Bioactive Collagen Peptides® technology optimizes peptide molecular weight distribution for dermal targeting vs generic collagen hydrolysates. Manufacturing process control distinguishes VERISOL® from commodity collagen products.
